Abstract

597,395. Television. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and JESTY, L. C. July 20, 1944, No. 13899. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (iii)] In a method of generating picture signals for the television of motion picture films in which the film, fed continuously at a predetermined frame frequency, is scanned by a light beam originating from the fluorescent screen of a cathode-ray tube such that the beam scans lines transversely of the film, the scanning lines are moved in the same direction as the direction of motion of the film at a speed equal to twice the feed speed of the film and the beam is returned rapidly to the starting position at intervals equal to the time taken by one frame of the film to pass a fixed point. Light passing through the film is directed on to a photoelectric cell in which the vision signals are generated. A film in which the pictures are inverted in relation to the frame. sequence must be used if the first line of a frame is to be at the top of the picture.
