Abstract

690,482. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 5, 1950 [Jan. 15, 1949], No. 1189/49. Class 40 (iii): In television transmitting or receiving apparatus in which each frame of a continuouslymoving film 8 is successively scanned by the two component frames of an interlaced scanning raster, incorrect interlacing due to film shrinkage or stretching is prevented by fitting generators 22, 24 to the shafts of a freelyrotating sprocket wheel 10 and a driven sprocket wheel 11, comparing the phases of the generator outputs in a phase-comparator 27, 32 and using the resultant output to adjust the relative positions of the raster components. As shown, the raster components are produced by optical systems 36, 37 in association with a cathode-ray tube 1 and are rendered effective alternately by a shutter 38. The D.C. output of the phase-comparator is fed over lead 33 to a modulator 34 also fed by a square-wave generator 35 and the arrangement is such that, with no output on lead 33, there is no output from modulator 34 but any potential produced in lead 33 due to distortion of the film produces a square-wave output which is applied to the frame-scanning generator 7 to shift the raster components in the appropriate direction for compensation. Alternatively, the compensation may be applied mechanically by a servo-mechanism to the optical systems 36, 37. Specifications 475,032, 639,785 and 690,487 are referred to.
