[Classes 108 (i) and 108 (ii)] Movement of a perambulator or like vehicle up and down stairs is facilitated by the provision of runners 28 normally held in the raised inoperative position (shown in broken lines) and adapted to be lowered to afford slidable supports in such a manner that the vehicle body 3 is maintained substantially horizontal while negotiating the stairs. The runners 28 which are preferably of wood are connected to the front and rear axles by two pairs of pivotally mounted links 13, 22 respectively. A transverse member 35 bridging the front links 13 carries a nut 38 which engages the thread of a spindle 39 having an operating handle 52 and supported by a bearing 40 mounted centrally on the rear axle by trunnions. In an alternative construction, Fig. 8 (not shown), the front links 13 have short upward extensions connected by a transverse member coupled to the end of a push rod which is supported in a bearing adjacent its other end and is provided with an operating knob: A projection on the rod cooperates with the end surfaces of the bearing to limit its two positions corresponding to the operative and inoperative positions of the support The push rod may be operated by a flexible cable control. In both constructions the runners are arranged when in their operative position to lie substantially tangential to the periphery of the rear wheels and they are long enough to contact two successive stair treads.
