597,278. Spray carburetters. SMITH, E., CRABTREE, N., NAYLOR, S., and MAW, H. J. July 19, 1946, No. 19144/45. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] An air admission device for a carburetter comprises a tubular member a having a furinelshaped inlet a<1> near the radiator, a gauze filter b with a frusto-conical end c, and an outlet a' leading to the carburetter; a nozzle b<3> allowing a small stream of air to escape, carrying with it grit &c. deposited on a slightly sloping side of the filter. Preferably the device is placed on the same side of the engine as a carburetter but the tubular portion a may be transverse to the engine and have the inlet a' on one side and the outlet a' and nozzle b' on the other.
