Abstract
Motor or aviation fuel is produced from hydrocarbon fractions comprising hydrocarbons having four carbon atoms in the molecule, particularly normal butene and isobutene, in a series of stages of (a) catalytic olefine isomerization to increase the isobutene content; (b) catalytic olefine polymerization of the resulting products, under conditions which produce dimers; and (c) hydrogenating of the dimers. The dimers may be separated by fractionation before hydrogenating. A preliminary polymerization of the feedstock may be carried out and the residue containing normal butene is isomerized.
