Abstract

596,238. Surface and outline gauges. JONES, J. S.. and WHEATLEY, G. J. S. Jan. 26, 1945, No. 2141. [Class 106 (ii)] A tapered plate-gauge for measuring the spacing of two curved surfaces such as the throat dimensions of the guide vanes of a turbine, comprises a member 5, the opposite edges 6 and 7 of which are curved, the concave edge 7 being of smaller curvature than that of the edge 6. The member has a scale which may give direct measurements or may give the deviation from a standard width as shown in Fig. 2. To enable the throat width to be measured at given radii a gig is provided comprising a circular member 17, Fig. 3 and 4 carrying a plurality of hinged arms 18 of different radial length. Each arm carries at its outer extremity a platform 19 capable of passing partly between adjacent curved surfaces of the vanes on which the taper gauge may be placed.
