Abstract

595,423. Double-belt moulding machines. SHRIMPTON, W. J., and BRITISH ARTIFICIAL RESIN CO., Ltd. March 18, 1946, No. 3991/45. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] An apparatus for making sheet materials from loose fibrous materials and a binder, has two moving conveyers, one above the other, made from interconnected platen members, the lower conveyer extending forward beyond the upper, a high frequency pre-heating device being situated above the extending portion. In passing between the conveyers the materials are pressed, e.g., by ramps which may be cam or hydraulically operated, and heated. The platen members of the caterpillar conveyers may have side plates or deckle bands to prevent side spread. In the operation of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 the binder and fibrous material from the hopper y are fed on to paper from roll w in an amount controlled by roller z. The material is then preheated by the high frequency device 1, another paper facing being applied from roll u. Pressure is then applied by means of cam operated ramp r the material then passing by the movement of the conveyers to the burners q and s. finally being cooled in zone t. Continuous steel bands u and v may be used to prevent sticking, while side spread is prevented by side plates j. Specification 551,179, [Group VIII], is referred to.
