Abstract
594,761. Furniture coverings. PLEAT LOOM, Ltd., and MARKS, A. Dec. 22, 1943, No. 21500. [Class 52(i)] / Furniture is provided with a wearresisting and ornamented covering of flexible material on a flexible backing and which has been embossed with a design e.g. to resemble pleating. The pleated flexible material may be artificial leather cloth, book binding cloth, Holland cloth &c. or rexine having a flexible backing of waterproofed textile fabric e.g. rubberised or coated with gutta-percha etc., but the backing may be of absorbent material, e.g. sugar-cane paper glued &c. to the embossed material. To emboss the material, the artificial leather cloth may be softened in a steam box, dried, ruffled by hand to make it limp, sandwiched between flexible moulded paper dies, e.g. of kraft paper, hand pressed, rolled up and placed in a steam box for about 15 minutes. Fig. 3 shows a cross section of the material with parallel rows of V-shaped pleats with a flexible backing 30. Fig. 4 shows the material applied to a work box.
