Abstract
594,427. Slide rules. DUSAND, F. May 15, 1946, No. 12142. Convention date, March 23, 1944. [Class 106 (i)] A slide rule comprises two fixed bars 1, 2 secured to end pieces 3, 4, the left-hand piece 3 having in each side a window 7, the edge 71 of which forms a reading line. The end pieces 3, 4 form stops for the cursor 6 which has in each side a window 8 with a bevelled edge 8<1> forming a reading line. A flexible steel strip 10 is fixed across an opening 9 in each side of the cursor and is backed with rubber pads so that, when the strips are pressed together, the pads engage the slide 5 and couple the cursor thereto by friction. When the cursor touches the end piece 3, the reading line 8<1> is above the initial lines on the scales marked on the fixed bars 1, 2. The top edge of the fixed bar 1 and the bottom edge of the fixed bar 2 may have linear scales and the corresponding parts of the cursor may have windows and reading edges similar to the side windows 8 and edges 8<1>.
