[Class 59] A waste disposal apparatus for attachment to a sink comprises a chamber 1 between a drain pipe 8 and the sink outlet 2, an axially stationary rotatable element 17 in the chamber for comminuting into a flowable mixture waste products entering at 2, passages 32 in the chamber wall at the periphery of the rotatable element through which the comminuted waste flows to the drain pipe, and passages 38, extending radially inward of the periphery and leading from openings 37 in said element to the drain pipe so byepassing the passages 32 and serving to conduct the normal sink drainage to the drain pipe. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, an electric motor 5 drives a fly-wheel 17 fitted with impellers 23 pivoted at 24 and in the position shown by dotted lines when at rest. Rotation of the part 17 centrifugally impels the garbage against shredding elements 26 affixed to the chamber wall, and also causes the impellers 23 to turn about their axes 24 into the operative position shown in full lines, whence garbage is sheared between the impellers and the teeth 26 and passes via passages 32 into the chamber 33 and drain pipe 8. Bevelled edges on the impellers, by projecting solid garbage centrally of the apparatus, ensure its continuous turn-over in action, whilst the centrifugally projected liquid tends to keep clear the drain openings 37.
