Abstract

593,489. Securing sprockets to wheel hubs. CRICK, W. E. C. Feb. 20, 1945, No. 4271. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In a chain drive for a wheel of a vehicle a sprocket 1 is mounted on one side of a sprocket plate 5 removably secured flush to the side of a hub-plate 3 which is mounted first with respect to the hub 2 of the wheel, and the attachment of the sprocket-plate to the hub plate is such as to permit of fine adjustment about the axis of the sprocket and wheel. The back wheel is driven through the medium of two chains running on sprockets 1 mounted symmetrically on the wheel hub 2. Two co - axial disc - shaped hub plates 3 are rigidly fixed one on each side of the hub 2 with end portions 2a of the hub projecting beyond them. Two detachable sprocket units are fitted to this structure, the hubplate 3 having circumferential slots 10 to receive bolts 7 which together with wing nuts 6 connect it to a sprocket plate 5 to allow of fine adjustment. The sprocket plate 5 is formed with an outwardly projecting sleeve 8 on which is mounted the inner element of the free wheel mechanism.
