Abstract

593,330. Escalators. WAYGOOD-OTIS, Ltd. June 14, 1945, No. 15142. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1944. [Class 78(i)] In escalator handrails of the kind which 'has a driving tape of metal secured thereto on the inner side, said tape having driving members extending therefrom, the handrail is C-shaped in cross section and the members are formed from lips extending from the tape to form teeth. The tape 40, Fig. 6, is punched to produce teeth 50 which freely mesh with the teeth 45 of the driving wheel 30. The driving wheel has a rim 46; Fig. 3, screwed to it ..upon which the two outer parts of the tape run flat. The handrail is provided with a pocket 39 having slots 42 into which the edges 43 of the tape extend to secure the tape to the handrail. Guides 32, 33 are provided for the rail. At the lower end a guide shoe 34 directs the handrail onto and off the wheel 31. It straddles the driving tape and is adjustably mounted to serve as a tensioning device. A rounded guiding member 38 is provided to lead the handrail off at different angles to accommodate the position of shoe 34.
