Abstract

1414815 Escalator handrails PAHL'SCHE GUMMI-UND ASBEST-GES PAGUAG 19 Jan 1973 [24 Jan 1972] 2988/73 Heading B8A An escalator handrail comprises a series of elements 4 which are releasably secured to a flexible drive member 2. As shown, each element comprises upper and lower parts 6, 8, which have stud and socket engagement 10, 12. Projections 18 formed on the member 8, engage corresponding recesses in the drive member 2. Curved ends 22, 24 of the elements 4 provide for relative rolling movement between adjacent elements. The latter are covered by a flexible protective cover 26. Teeth 20 are provided for engagement with drive sprockets. In a modification (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) the sprocket teeth pass up through apertures formed in the drive member 2 and into a cavity (5) formed in the upper part 6. The drive member 2 may be formed with projections (11), (13) (Figs. 7a-8c, not shown) arranged to engage suitably shaped portions of a series of one-piece elements 4 (not shown). In another modification (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown) the elements 4 are interconnected with each other, and the drive member 2 is in the form of three laterally spaced cables.
