Abstract
593,211. Refrigerators. COOK, H. M. June 21, 1945, No. 15849. [Class 29] [Also in Group VI] An apparatus for freezing perishable commodities comprises an insulated tunnel 14 having air locks with doors 21 at its entrance end 11 and air locks with doors 22 at its exit end 12 to reduce heat losses, a series of receptacles 31 on endless chains 13 which return outside the tunnel, means to circulate air in the tunnel, and a recurved portion at the exit end 12 for inverting the receptacles and discharging the commodity therefrom. The air circulating means may include a separate chamber 20 in' which are cooling elements 19, the air being withdrawn by the suction fan 15 from the central zone of the tunnel, cooled, and then delivered at the ends of the tunnel. Preferably, the receptacles are equally spaced, and the lock doors so spaced with respect to the spacing of the receptacles that two adjacent lock doors are never open at the same time. Where a commodity such as fish is frozen to the receptacle on emergence from the tunnel, heating elements 41 in the chamber 37 are employed to break the frozen connection and allow the commodity to fall on to a belt conveyer 38.
