Abstract
592,729. Correspondence control systems. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc. May 28, 1945, No. 13378. Convention date, May 27, 1944. [Class 40 (i)] In a correspondence control.system of the type in which fine and coarse adjustment movements are transmitted, the two signals are amplified at the receiver by separate amplifiers and combined to actuate a follow-up servomotor, the coarse signal amplifier being biassed beyond cut-off so that for small deviations, only the "fine" signals are applied to the motor. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement in which controlling shaft 1 drives the rotor of "coarse" selsyn transmitter 3 directly, and the motor of " fine " transmitter 4 through step up gears 5. The rotors of the respective receivers 10 and 11 are similarly geared together. Signals from the motor 13 of receiver 10 are applied to valve 15, which is biassed so that it only conducts when they exceed a predetermined value. Signals from rotor 14 of receiver 11 are amplified by valve 16 which is provided with negative current feedback. The voltages appearing at the anodes of the valves are plotted with respect to angular displacement between rotors 2 and 13 in Fig. 2, while Fig. 3 shows the voltage applied to the primary of transformer 25, which is connected between the anodes of the valves. Transformer 25 feeds phase sensitive amplifier 28 which provides an output dependent in phase or polarity on the phase of the input voltage, so that the associated motor 33 drives the follow-up shaft and the rotors of selsyns 10 and 11 into correspondence with the transmitter. The ratio of the gears coupling the two selsyn systems is such that when the displacement is in the order of 180 degrees the fine signal is in the sense to correct the displacement. Also the coarse signal amplifier output is always greater than that of the fine for any given deviation. The two valves may be replaced by a twin tube and may be any multi-electrode type.
