592,298. Steam &c. separators. PRICE, A. C. (Hobbs, J. C.). March 21, 1945, No. 9684/47. Divided out of 592,273. [Class 123 (iii)] A separator for gases and liquids, such as steam and water, comprises a bank of corrugated plates 60 arranged side-by-side in vertical planes transversely of the drum 10 of the boiler &c. to form narrow sinuous channels therebetween for the flow of steam from inlets at the bottom of the bank to a dry space 65 which is closed at both ends and is formed below an outlet 12 from the drum and between the said bank and an upper part of the drum spanned thereby. The plates 60 are assembled in spaced relation on rods 17 extending through openings in the plates and through curved spacer members - 18 interposed between adjacent plates, and the complete bank is supported by narrow seal plates 62 extending along the bottom end portions of the said plates and secured to the drum wall by welding &c. The upper edges of the plates 60 are shaped to form depending flanges 63, which extend downwardly and are provided with spaced bosses 66, the bosses on the flange of one plate contacting with the next plate so that the effective flow area at the upper or discharge end of each flow channel is reduced to a substantially continuous narrow slit 64 extending the full length of the plate. In a modification the plates 60 are curved or V- shaped in elevation and the steam flow area is reduced by a correspondingly-shaped plate which is fitted tightly against the upper edges of the plates and is provided with spaced outlet orifices.
