Abstract
592,247. Axle suspension of swivel trucks. DEHN, F. B. (Hickman Pneumatic Seat Co., Inc.). March 13, 1945, No. 6265. [Class 103 (vi)] , The axles 20 carrying independently mounted wheels 12 of the swivel trucks of a railroad passenger car are connected to the trucks by a spring suspension comprising a bracket 22 on each end of each axle, tension links 30 and a crank arm 32 pivotally mounted on the side beam 15 of the truck and urged downwardly by a torque tube 35. The torque tubes 35 are inclined to the horizontal so that each may pass over or under the suspension linkage on the same side of the other axle and thus extend the whole length of the truck. A lever 40 splined to the "anchored" end of each tube is connected by an adjustable tension member 50, 58 with a chain 47 passing round and secured to the "anchored" end of the rod 38 associated with the other side of the same axle so that if one of the rods 38 breaks the other is released and the truck settles at both sides on to the stops 26. The truck frame, comprising side beams 15 connected by transverse beams may be a single casting.
