Abstract

591,964. Feeding webs. WOOD NEWSPAPER MACHINERY CORPORATION. March 15, 1945, No. 6548. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1943. [Class 100 (i)] A device for use in splicing the leading end of a web on a rotating new roll to a running web in printing and like machines, comprises pieces of sheet material 25<1>, 26<1> having strong adhesive on their under surfaces for securing them to the leading end of the new web and the surface of the new roll respectively, an extension 23 on the part 25<1> overlying the part 261 and joined to it by a weak adhesive such as wax or grease, and, on the outer surface of the part 25<1>, a layer 14<1> of splicing adhesive which may be of rosin glue or the like or of self-sticking non-vulcanizing rubber adapted to stick to a similar layer on the old web as described in Specification 555,707. A strip 27 may be left free from the adhesive 14<1> to assist the operator in positioning the tab. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a tab, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), wherein the web end engaging part 25 and the roll surface engaging part 26 are formed from one sheet of material and are separated by a row of perforations 10, the splicing adhesive 14 being applied to the part 25 only. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
