Abstract
Sheetings of polyvinyl acetals, preferably polyvinyl butyral, are wetted with an organic ester of phthalic, benzoic or phosphoric acid or a mixture thereof, and used as interleaving material in compound glass and other laminated products (see Group VIII). Suitable wetting liquids are dihexyl phthalate, amyl benzoate, dibutyl glycol phthalate, amyl and benzyl benzoates, butyl phthalyl-butyl-glycollate and tributyl, triphenyl and tricresyl phosphates. The sheeting may be formed from a solution of polyvinyl butyral in ethyl lactate, trichloroethylene and methylated spirits, with or without dihexyl phthalate or dimethyl glycol phthalate as plasticiser. The sheeting or wetting liquid may be dyed. Polymethyl methacrylate and plastic sheeting known under the Registered Trade Mark "Polaroid" may be laminated to glass by means of polyvinly butyral. Compounds which may be added to the interleaving material while in liquid form are drying oil compounds and compounds of phenol, urea, or melamine with formaldehyde, with or without plasticisers.
