Abstract

589,920. Blasting &c. cartridges. NEWTON, E. P. (Hercules Powder Co.). April 8, 1943, No. 956/45. Divided out of 589,904. [Class 9 (i)] Two or more cartridges 1, Fig. 6, such as may be used for geophysical prospecting, are firmly interconnected in axial alignment by a sleeve or sleeves 42 applied to the adjacent ends. The sleeves, which may be split, as in Fig. 6, or continuous, as in Figs. 11 and 13, may be provided with various arrangements 'of pressed-in teeth or prongs 43 to bite into the material (paper, vulcanized fibre, metal) of the cartridge case, and such teeth may be inclined inwardly towards the centre of the sleeve, as at 49, Fig. 11. The sleeve 52, Fig. 13, has resilient gripping rings 54 at its ends. In a further modification, the sleeves are corrugated to form a spiral thread which is screwed on to the plain or similarly-threaded abutting ends of the cartridges. The sleeves may be of spring metal, tinned sheet-iron or vulcanized fibre. Specification 589,904 is referred to.
