[Class 75 (i)] [Also in Groups XXVI, XXVII and XXIX] In a liquid fuel supply system of the type in which a variable delivery pump a delivers excess fuel to swirl-type nozzles u, the excess being returned by a pipe v to the suction side o of the pump or to a sump, the pressure drop across two variable orifices w, 8 situated respectively in delivery pipe t, and return pipe v are applied to the diaphragms 6, 16, to actuate a pump controlling means, and a restricting valve 17 in the pipe v is also actuated by' the pressure drop across orifice 8. The pump a, preferably of the swash-plate type, is controlled by a rod d connected to the piston b operated by the fuel entering through e and flowing through the restricted passage g and venting pipe h to a seating i for a valve j on one end of a lever k controlled by a rod 7 connected to the diaphragms 6, 16. Diaphragm n, carrying lever k, divides the chamber m, into two, compartment m<1>, being filled with fuel from the pipe h and connected by a pipe p, to the pump inlet o or a sump, and compartment m<2> being open to the atmosphere and containing a barometric capsule s attached to lever k. Movement of the valve j, balanced to closing by a spring r causes the output of the pump a to be varied. The effects on the diaphragms 6, 16 are opposed to each other. Valve 17, operated by a spring- loaded diaphragm 19, is adapted to restrict the return flow of fuel when the pressure drop across orifice 8 exceeds a certain value.
