Abstract
589,798. Electric selective signalling systems. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd. July 28, 1944, No. 851/47. Convention date, July 31, 1943. Divided out of 589,750. [Class 40 (i)] The invention comprises a modification of the general system described in Specification 589,750 and relates to the use of parallel connected selector relays by means of which the number of devices to be controlled at any one location is increased above the capacity of a single storage unit. In one arrangement, after operation of relays FA, GA, in response to the second and third steps of the station code, relay 234S is operated by the fourth step as described in Specification 589,750, but additional storage relays 235S to 238S, at the same location, are, in this case, connected. to wires 125 to 128 to be responsive to codes having the fifth to eighth steps long respectively. In a second arrangement a number of' units FB are connected to the coding unit similarly to the one shown. The operation of FA on the second step immediately energizes each relay FB. The group selector relay GB, which is then selected by the following long step of the received code, breaks the holding circuit of FA and prepares circuits for storage relays 245S to 248S, one of which is later completed according to the timing of the subsequent long impulse. This arrangement enables four, three, two and one S relays respectively to be connected to consecutive GB relays. The third arrangement, in which a number of units such as UC are employed, enables code calls having different digits to be used. Each relay EC is picked up on the first step of each code, but releases when FA is energized by the first long step of the station code. FC is operated by the subsequent long step and GO and S relays operate in sequence on the following long steps of the code. The first long step of the station code may then be any of steps 2 to 6. Specifications 415,787, 528,745 and 528,747 also are referred to.
