Abstract
589,786. Augers. HAYWOOD, A. E. April 5, 1945, No. 8402. [Class 83 (iii)] A drill as described in Specification 556,386 for wood or like relatively soft material comprises a tubular member 13 with a sharp bevelled edge 17 at the operative end to enter the material to be drilled and with an eccentric bore in which is detachably fitted a cutting member 19 having a radial cutting edge 20, the wall thickness of the tubular member being least at a point 15 near the radially outermost end of the cutting edge. The tubular member may be integral with the drill shank and the cutting member separate, or vice-versa, and the two parts are secured together by a set-screw at a point where the wall thickness of the tubular member is greatest.
