Abstract
589,439. Saw-tooth waveformgenerators. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CQ., Ltd., and SPOONER, A. M. Sept. 5, 1944, No. 16954. [Class 40 (v)] A saw-tooth generator of the blocking oscillator type is combined with a multi-electrode valve which displays a negative resistance characteristic, has synchronizing pulses applied to the first control grid and has the second control and screen grids coupled to the control grid of the blocking oscillator, the screen grid coupling comprising a small capacitor. The Figure shows a blocking oscillator triode section 1 in which capacitor 9 charges slowly through resistor 8 while grid 3 remains below cut-off and discharges rapidly through the valve when a blocked oscillation occurs. Screen grids 15, 16 of the hexode section are coupled to the second control grid 2 by means of a small capacitor 18 and grid 2 is connected internally to control grid 3 of the triode section. A positive synchronizing pulse at grid 10 produces a very steep wavefront at grids 2, 3 by cumulative transitron action which intensifies the blocked oscillations in the triode section and causes a more rapid discharge of capacitor 9. The hexode section may be replaced by a separate pentode valve and its control grid may be biassed to cut-off.
