Abstract
589,407. Saw-tooth wave generators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). March 21, 1945, No. 7203. (Class 40 (v)] A saw-tooth waveform having adjustable slope and a constant amplitude is generated by a circuit in which a capacitor is charged through a variable resistor to a potential limited by a circuit including a rectifier, and discharged periodically for brief intervals. Capacitor 15 charges through resistor 19 and also through a variable impedance path comprising resistors 26, 27 and a large capacitor 28 which retains a charge substantially equal to the limiting charge on capacitor 15. Positive pulses 3A of constant width render valve section 18 conducting to discharge capacitor 15 for the duration of each pulse, reducing the potential of anode 16 to a low value and driving anode 25 negative to cut-off diode section 23. After the pulse terminates, capacitor 15 re-charges until diode 23 conducts and stabilizes the potential of anode 16 before the incidence of the next synchronizing pulse. A saw-tooth waveform with constant amplitude and slope depending on the setting of the potentiometer 27 appears at anode 25 and is fed in push-pull to deflection plates 10 through paraphase amplifier 30.
