Abstract
589,349. Multiple - way valves. STEPHENS, W. T. Oct. 12, 1944, No. 19697. [Class 135] A control valve for a hydraulic hoist &c., comprises a housing having a valve bore 24, a high pressure inlet passage 41, low pressure passages 43, 17, 16, said passages intersecting the bore, a pair of motor ports 32, 34, a valve plunger 26 slidable in the bore by the operating eye 30 in each direction, against the spring 54, from a neutral position and having a reduced diameter portion 451 of a length to connect the passages 41 and 43 when the plunger is in the neutral position, said plunger having two spaced longitudinal bores 47, 67, each connecting a pair of port sets 66, 62, and 491, 72 spaced apart a distance substantially equal to the distance between the high pressure passage 41 and each motor port, a check valve 48, 63, in each bore for controlling one of the port sets, the latter port sets being out of register with the motor ports and the low pressure passages 16, 17 when the plunger is in its neutral position but arranged to communicate with the motor ports for raising or the low pressure passages for lowering the hoist &c., by movement of the plunger from its neutral position, one of the other port sets, 66, registering with the low pressure passage 43 in the neutral position and being located at the junction of the main and reduced diameters of the valve plunger. The double acting plunger 26 may be replaced by or, as shown, work in conjunction with a single acting plunger 27, the inner ends of both plungers being identical. The maximum overlap of the ports 72, which are helically arranged, with the ports 32 and, therefore, the maximum rate of lowering of the hoist, may be adjusted by a screw stop, 75. In a modification an auxiliary lowering port of smaller cross-sectional area than either of the port sets 72, 49' may be formed in the plunger between the said port sets to give a predetermined limited rate of lowering of the hoist. Specification 576,309 is referred to.
