[Classes 44, 89 (i) and 89 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A bolt-like connecting means particularly for fixing articles to thin walls where access can only be had to one side, has a main body part and a pivoted section adapted to be tilted out of line with the main body after the passing through the hole. The fixing screw &c. is used to cause the tilting and to prevent the pivoted section from returning to the withdrawal position. The body part a, Fig. 1, is channelled out at its forward end and carries at this end a pivoted member b. A screw e engages a tapped hole in the solid part of the body, preferably near to one side. After insertion of the bolt, the screw is tightened tilting the part b and then passing behind it to prevent its return. The screw engages the front face of the wall by a washer and this may be formed as a picture hook d with a slot to receive a tongue a<1> on the bolt to prevent rotation. Either the end of the screw or the abutting end of the part b may be tapered. The end of the body may be slotted to mount opposed pivoted members b or the body may be hexagonal, instead of square, to mount three pivoted members. The bolt may be employed to connect plates f, Fig. 11, together prior to riveting, a washer g receiving the head of the screw. Two bolts a, Fig. 12, may be employed with a bracket h<3> to connect wall plates h<1>, h2 at right angles and the bracket may be provided with a third side, shown in dotted lines to secure a ceiling plate also. In a modification for use with a range of thicknesses of wall, the body part a, Figs. 15 and 19 is of channel section throughout, the flanges being inturned at a<2> to retain and guide a shorter channel part a<3>, the end wall of which is tapped for the screw a<7>. Interengaging depressions a<8>, a' on the parts effect further guiding and may limit the travel. The part a<3> carries the pivoted member a<4> and the screw a<7>, after turning the member a<4> into position telescopes the parts a, a<3> to effect clamping. The washer a<5> is formed to engage behind the part a as well as in front of the wall. In a further modification, the part a is dispensed with and the washer a<1> has a long rearwardly extending tongue that engages in the end wall of the part a<3>.
