Abstract

A method of treating a medium for filtering lubricating oils comprises pre-saturating it with the substantial whole of the additive or additives, comprising or including substances of the polar molecule type, which it is capable of adsorbing from the oil, by soaking it in a lubricating oil containing the additive or additives, so that the medium when subsequently put into use is prevented from further such adsorption. The soaking may take place on the material of the filter before or after it is made up into filtering elements. A filtering element may be presaturated by the passage therethrough of a sample of the oil ultimately to be filtered. The additive may be, for example, stearic or cerotic acid, or an organic compound of phosphorus such as triphenyl methyl phosphonium iodide.ALSO:A method of treating a medium for filtering lubricating oils comprises pre-saturating it with the substantial whole of the additive or additives comprising or including substances of the polar molecule type which it is capable of adsorbing from the oil by soaking it in a lubricating oil containing the additive or additives, so that the medium when subsequently put into use is prevented from further such adsorption.
