Abstract

588,677. Magnetic measurements. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., and TURNER, F. Feb. 12, 1945, No. 3424. [Class 37] [Also in Group XXXVIII] A torsiometer comprises a stationary transformer 12, the magnetic circuit of which is completed by toothed rings 2, 6 carried at spaced points by a rotary shaft 1. When the shaft is subjected to a torque the teeth of the rings are displaced relatively to each other and a change in the reluctance of the transformer magnetic circuit is produced. As shown, the primary is supplied with pulsating current from a constant source in series with an interrupter 19 and the primary of a further transformer with an adjustable yoke 16 which is adjusted by graduated drum 22. The secondaries are connected in opposition through a further interrupter 20 acting as a rectifier and an indicating instrument 21, the torsion being read by adjusting the yoke until the instrument reads zero. In a further embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), a double differential type of torque-responsive transformer and an equivalent manually variable comparison transformer are provided, the two secondaries of each being connected to one another in series opposition and the same indicating arrangements being provided. In an alternative measuring circuit, Fig. 5 (not shown), the two secondary voltages are balanced in an adjustable resistance bridge.
