Abstract
588,579. Engraved plastic jewellery. COLLIER, T. W. Jan. 22, 1945, No. 1753. [Class 43] [Also in Groups XV and XVIII] Transparent or semi-transparent plastic materials. are decorated to provide jewellery such as bracelets, bangles, ear-rings, brooches, badges, pendants and tiarras by engraving an undersurface in the form of a design and introducing into at least a portion of the recesses colouring material so that the said design is readily visible through a thickness of the said plastic material (see Group XV). Additional protection of the design may be obtained by providing a layer of plastic material or cement to cover the recesses and their colouring material. Thus, ear-rings are made by engraving holes in suitably shaped plastic material and filling the holes with colour and then, if desired, dipping into molten or dissolved plastic. Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate a bracelet 1 of flat strip plastic slightly rounded at edges 2 with the recesses 3 coated with colour and covered by a backing layer 4. Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate a brooch 5 with the coloured engraved design 7 and a backing layer 8 (which may carry decorations 6) carrying a pin 9.
