Abstract
587,997. Transformers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and STEARN, G. F. Jan. 4, 1945, No. 381. [Class 38 (ii)] The winding of a transformer or inductance has a portion at its high potential end arranged in a pair of annular sections, joined by at least three cross-connections and comprising inwardly and outwardly spiralling turns, there being a conductive path which spirals at least once each way from a starting turn near one edge of one section to a finishing turn near the corresponding edge of the other section and a capacity path between these starting and finishing turns. This path includes the capacities between these and adjacent turns, and one or more of the cross-connections. In Fig. 2, the first two sections A, B are composed respectively of consecutively numbered turns spirally inwardly and outwardly, the conducting path from first to last turns 1, 20 being formed by turns 1-5 Section A, 6-10 Section B, 11-15 , Section A, 16-20 Section B. The capacity path between the first and last turns comprises the capacities between turns 1, 11 and 10, 20 and the connection joining turns 10, 11. In other arrangements described, the outside turns of adjacent sections, which are otherwise single-spirals are exchanged, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the sections comprise several layers of turns, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). These turn rearrangements give capacity distributions which reduce abnormal voltage distributions under surge conditions.
