Abstract

587,679. Wave guides. FERTEL, G. E. F., BARRABLE, J. A., and WRIGHT, C. S. June 12, 1944, No. 11252. [Class 40 (iii)] A tubular wave guide 10 of rectangular cross-section has one or more cylindrical reactance members 14 extending across the wave guide, each with its longitudinal axis parallel to a transverse axis of the guide, and fitting into and closing a rectangular aperture 16 in one side wall with segmental extensions in adjoining walls, the member 14 being mounted for rotation about its. longitudinal axis in a seating 15 and shaped by removal of a cylindrical segment 17, 18, 19 conforming with the inner boundary edges of the aperture 16 so that in one position of rotation the member 14 forms a continuation of the inner surface of the wave guide, but protrudes into the interior of the guide when rotated into other positions. Each member 14 is formed at one end with a toothed wheel 20 which co-operates with a worm 21 and hand wheel 24 for rotating the member 14 to vary the reactance, a scale being provided on one end of the cylinder. The adjusting apparatus is mounted in a box-like housing 12 integral with the guide 10 and closed by a cover-plate (not shown).
