587,521. Fog-dispersal from aerodromes &c. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., COOPER, B. S., CORNOCK, A. F., HUMPHREYS, O. W., RYDE, J. W., and LAMBERT, B. V. May 12, 1943, No. 7599. [Class 6 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] Fog-dispersal means comprises lines of orifices along the sides of or within the area to be cleared, such as an aerodrome runway, one line of orifices projecting a curtain of air which exercises an entraining influence on a quantity of treated air expelled from the other orifices so that the treated air is drawn across the area. As shown in Fig. 1, concrete ducts 1<SP>1</SP>, 1<SP>11</SP>, seven feet square in cross-section, are laid with their upper surfaces flush with the ground. The orifices are 5¢ inches in diameter and 1¢ feet from centre to centre. Air is supplied to the ducts by motor-driven fans in the casings 6. Marine-type fuel-burners are laid either in the ducts or on the ground on the sides of the ducts opposite to the runway. Heated air is projected from the ducts on the windward side, the angle of projection varying with the width to be cleared. Projectors may also be placed at the ends of the runways to counter end-on winds. Specification 529,243 is referred to.
