Abstract

586,671. Carbonizing apparatus; cracking oil vapour. FRANCOIS, R. May 30, 1940, No. 9500. Convention date, May 30, 1939. [Classes 55(i) and 55 (ii)] In the continuous carbonization of solid carbonaceous material such as lignite shale, wood, or oil bearing matter, the material is fed from a hopper 18 on to a heated floor 5 along which it is moved by sets of scrapers 17 in staggered relationship mounted on an endless chain 14, this carbonized product dropping into a delivery trough 21. The distillates collect in a dome 24 divided by a vertical partition 25 open at the top over which they pass, and are freed from dust before discharge through an outlet 26 leading to conduits 27 heated in a flue 3 so that tarry products are cracked.
