Abstract
586,582. Disc brakes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Oct. 19, 1944, No. 20289. Convention date, Nov. 13, 1943. [Class 103 (i)] In disc brakes having one or more friction discs formed of a series of segments disconnectibly interlocked at adjacent ends, the torque transmitting anchors engage at the rear end of the segments so that the braking force transmitted to an anchor acts in compression throughout the circumferential length of the segment. The vehicle wheel brake shown is similar to that described in Specification 579,172 except that the anchors or keys 26 which form the driving connection of the segments 48 of the rotor discs engage notches at the rear of the peripheral edges of the segments so that the braking force acts in compression on the segment over its whole length. As shown, the rotor segments are connected by disconnectible links 50 and the stator discs, apart from the friction lining 32<1>thereof, are not segmental and are anchored to the fixed member 34 by bolts 38. The stator discs may, however, be segmented, as well as, or instead of, the rotor discs and be similarly anchored. Specification 579,799, [Group XXVI], also is referred to.
