Abstract
584,827. Washing-machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 26, 1945, No. 2069. Convention date, Jan. 27, 1944. [Class 138 (i)] In a machine for washing dishes &c. comprising an electric motor for circulating liquid and a drain valve held closed by electric operating means, current responsive means open the drain and, stop the motor when the current in the circuit becomes too large. As shown in Fig. 1, a rotary cam 50 is slowly revolved by a motor 60 thereby opening and closing in a predetermined cycle the switches 45, 46, 47, 48, 49. The switch 46 is in series with the coil 17 of an electromagnet 18 which, when energized, closes the drain valve 13 against the action of the spring 16. The switch 47 is in series with the coil 32 of an electromagnet 30 which, when energized, opens the inlet valve 28, allowing liquid to flow into the washing vat ; this circuit has another switch 36 which is opened by an electromagnet 35 in series with the impeller motor 23 when the armature current in the motor reaches a certain value, to close the inlet valve 28. The switch 49 bye passes the electromagnet 35 ; the switch 48 is in series with a drying heater 37a. A fuse 66 is provided as shown to break all the circuits except that to the heater 37a if the current in the motor 23 and the coils 17 and 30 becomes too great owing to the valve 28 failing to close properly and admitting too much liquid to the vat, thereby overloading the motor, or for any other reason. Specification 557,678 is referred to.
