Abstract
A water-sensitive polyvinyl resin having 1-50 per cent of the C atoms attached to hydroxyl groups is mixed with a water-soluble alkylol-urea-formaldehyde resin to give a sizing composition. Polyvinyl resins specified are partial acetates, propionates, glycollic acid esters, formates and lactates, partial glycol ethers, glycollic acid ethers, methyl and ethyl ethers, partial formals, glyoxals, propionals and butyrals and partial ethyl methyl ketals. N-ethanol urea-formaldehyde resin is specified as the other component. Boric acid may be added to the aqueous size. Specification 554,268 is referred to.
