Abstract

583,883. Chain mechanism for transmitting reciprocating motion. AIRCRAFT HYDRAULIC APPLIANCES, Ltd., and WYLIE, H. N. July 5, 1945, No. 17198. [Class 80 (iii)] In a push-pull type transmission line for transmitting reciprocating motion along a curved path a roller type chain 2 is located in a tubular casing 1, the rollers 3 of the chain being in contact with rails 4 diametrically disposed and running longitudinally of the casing 1. The rails 4 may be free in or fixed to the casing 1, and may be of rectangular, channel or other shape. As shown for use on aircraft, at one end the tube is connected to a fluid pressure cylinder 8, the piston 7 of which is connected to the chain by a rod 5, and at the other end actuates u pinion 10 through a rack 9 and another rod 5. A plurality of such pinions, spaced apart, may be operated by the same transmission line. A plurality of chains may be mounted side-by-side in a single casing. The rails and chain may be mounted loosely in a straight casing which during assembly is bent to the required degree of curvature. The Provisional Specification states that the invention may be applied to the actuation of windscreen wipers.
