Abstract
583,492. Reinforced concrete beams. HAGGBOM, I. March 16, 1944, No. 4941. [Class 20 (iv)] In reinforced concrete beam structures comprising one or more longitudinal beams l, k of varying cross-sectional height, the structure is compressed by longitudinal tie-rods h placed outside of the beam or beams and anchored to transverse members, attached to the beam or beams at its or their ends g, f or to points nearer the centre of the span. The tie-rods are provided with tensioning devices such as screws, jacks or turnbuckles. As shown in Fig. 1, the tie-rods may carry weights or spring loads m, n. The tie-rods may be embedded in concrete, which is poured after they are tensioned.
