Abstract

582,383. Glazing bars. WILLIAMS & WILLIAMS, Ltd., and MADDOX, A. M. Sept. 29, 1944, No. 18662. [Class 20 (iii)] A glazing bar comprising a web having spaced longitudinal integral abutments, one of which supports the glass, and between the upper and lower of which is disposed a retaining channel for receiving the lower end of the vertical limb of a cover strip having a laterally extending glass-retaining portion, is characterized in that, after insertion of the glass, the upper abutment is deformed on to the upper end of the vertical limb of a resilient cover strip to press the latter on to the glass. As shown, the parts are all of extruded aluminium &c. alloy, and are so proportioned that the vertical limbs B of the cover strips do not touch the bottoms of the channels A<4>. The upper abutments A<3> are deformed on to the upper ends B<3> of the vertical limbs at intervals by pliers or by a tool D fulcrumed on the rib B<2> on the cover strip and having a deforming wedge E. The wedge E, or a separate stop, may engage the web A to limit the deformation. The ends of the upper abutments A<3> are stepped to provide an exposed part for engagement by a dismantling tool. The upper end B' of the vertical limbs may be slightly inclined to give a wedging action.
