Abstract
582,062. Siphonic flushing apparatus. GLANVILLE, E. T. July 12, 1944, No. 13306. [Class 26] In a flushing apparatus comprising a discharge pipe 2 within a cistern 1, a closed-top shell 8 enclosing said pipe 2, and valve means liftable within the annular space 10 -by exteriorlyoperable means to start siphonic flow, the valve means consists of a sleeve 11, having a flange 12, supporting on its periphery a loose valve ring 14. The ring 14 floats upward against arresting fins 13 when the sleeve is elevated by depressing the arm 16 of a linkage attached to the floor of the cistern, whereby the water flows through ports 9 into the pipe 2, the flow ceasing when the lower end of the air-vent tube 18 is exposed. In a modification, the sleeve 11 is elevated by the limbs of a pivoted lever, a heel portion on one of the limbs contacting the base to limit the ascent.
