Abstract
355,749. Siphon - discharge waterwaste preventers. CLEVELAND, F. J., 29, Southampton Buildings, London.- (Nicholl, G.; 26, Park Road, Walmer Estate, Cape Town, South Africa.) May 28, 1930, No. 16527. [Class 26.] A flushing cistern of the siphon-discharge type for sanitary or other purposes contains a central tube D extending from the outlet B to above the water level, and surrounded by a sleeve or guide pipe N, having attached to it a lift base O to which the lifting rod Q is secured. An annular ring R normally rests on the base 0, and is loose on the rod Q but is prevented from rising by a stop Q<1>. The rod passes through a hole T, which is sealed by water in a cup-shaped container V, and is operated by a horizontal rod X, quadrant Y and chain AA, a stop CC, by coming to rest against the side of the casing, retaining the quadrant in the desired position. The water level in the container A is maintained, by the usual floating ball valve, just below the open end E of the tube D, and when the rod Q is lifted, the water is raised bodily by the lift base and annular ring until it overflows down the tube D. The stop Q<1> eventually strikes the under portion of the casing, and the rush of water causes the ring R to rise and allow water to flow freely around the lift base until most of the water in the container has been siphoned out, the entry of air stopping the action.
