Abstract
A free-flowing granular composition suitable for controlling pests and enriching the soil comprises a fertilizer capable of supplying nitrogen phosphorus or potassium to plant life with which is incorporated at least one isomeric form of benzene hexachloride. Suitable fertilizers are calcium superphosphate, ammonium sulphate or mono-phosphate, kainite, potassium sulphate or chloride, nitro-chalk, dried blood or compound fertilizers containing these. The composition may also contain an inert diluent such as talc, slate dust, gypsum, plaster of paris or chalk. A mixture of the ingredients may be slurried with water, dried, say, at 100-110 DEG C., crushed, and sieved to produce granules. Specification 573,689, [Group VI], is referred to.ALSO:A free-flowing granular composition suitable for controlling pests and enriching the soil comprises a fertilizer capable of supplying nitrogen, phosphorus or potassium to plant life with which is incorporated at least one isomeric form of benzene hexachloride. The composition may also contain a solid inert diluent. The benzene hexachloride preferably contains a proportion of the g or a isomers. Suitable fertilizers are calcium superphosphate, ammonium sulphate or monophosphate kainite, potassium sulphate or chloride, nitrochalk, dried blood or compound fertilizers containing these. Suitable inert diluents are talc, slate dust, gypsum, plaster of paris or chalk. Preferably, the fertilizer, a mixture of benzene hexachloride isomers containing the g isomer and a solid inert diluent are mixed together with sufficient water to produce a thick slurry or paste-like mass which is dried, say at 100-110 DEG C. on a heated drum or on trays. The dried material is crushed and sieved to produce granules having a diameter of 1-2 mms. Specification 573,689 is referred to.
