Abstract

581,687. Wireless signalling. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and WILLSHAW, W. E. Dec. 31, 1941, No. 16818. [Class 40 (v)] A short-wave system for use in signalling over a plane surface, e.g. the sea, employs at the transmitter and the receiver a plurality of aerials located at different heights and operating with different plane of polarization, but with the same wave-length ; the heights being so adjusted that interference minima due to reflection at the plane surface lie at different distances from the transmitter for waves polarized in different planes. When a station is adapted both for transmission and reception, either the same or separate aerials may be used. The receiving aerials may feed receiving circuits which are separate as far as the final rectifier. The system may operate on 7 c.m. waves, with a vertical aerial located at a height of 50 feet and a horizontal aerial at 60 feet.
