Abstract

580,854. Control systems for resistance welding. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., CHADWICK, G., and SALTHOUSE, J. E. Jan. 19, 1944, No. 1028. [Class 38 (iv)] Electric impulses for welding are obtained by discharging a condenser 4 by a gas discharge' tube 17 which, subject to the condenser voltage, actuates a relay 16. The relay 16 initiates the discharge through a relay 13 which affects an ignitron 7. The relay 13 also applies a blocking potential to' the grids of the charging rectifiers 2, 3. A relay 19 energizes a control coil 21 thereby holding the electrodes to the work. A transformer 22 during discharge operates through a gas-filled rectifier 24 and a relay 23 to release the electrodes whether the starting switch 12 be closed or not. The rectifier 24 also prevents the energization of the relay 23 due to oscillations between the welding transformer 5 and the transformer 22 during the charging cycle.
