[Class 100 (iii)] A copy-holder which is especially adapted for enabling packs 51 of strips folded zigzag fashion as used in shorthand typing machines to be transcribed by the typist of an ordinary typewriter is constructed with a collapsable strip holder 8 mounted in a frame 7 pivoted at 14 to stays 15 which are mounted in guides 16 and are extended to the position shown in Fig. 2 when in use, so as to incline the holder at a convenient angle, e.g., 53‹ to the horizontal. The frame 7 is raised by means of links 18, 19 held in raised position by a stop 22, and the end of the strip 51 is led from its storage chamber past spring guides 52 and is directed by edge guides 9 and passed over a friction feed roller 10 with which coacts a spring-pressed roller mounted in a frame pivoted about a pivot 39. The frame is fitted with rollers for receiving rolls of paper 40 on which may be printed directions &c. for the typist. The strips 51 are fed line by line by the action of a knob 27 on a gear which drives the roller 10, or a quick feed of a length corresponding to one section of the strip 51 may be fed by means of a rack which is depressed against the action of a spring lever by means of a projecting arm 32 sliding in a slot 33. The rack operates the roller 10 by means of a freewheel drive. The strips 51 after use are received in a tray. 50, and the whole apparatus can be collapsed when not in use, the frame 7 serving as a cover. The frame in which the paper 40 is mounted can be swung about its pivot 39 to form a gap through which a strip 51 can be withdrawn for refolding in the lower casing if the whole matter thereon has not been transcribed. The container 6 is fitted with a slidable rest 54 which can be withdrawn to hold a book to be copied. The guides 9 may be fitted with an indicating pointer. The roller 10 may be replaced by one having feeding sprockets to engage marginal perforations in the strip, and the apparatus may be made of metal or plastic material.
