Abstract

579,470. Cycle chain cases. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and PERKINS, H. April 18, 1944, No. 7137. [Class 136 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A chain casing comprises a body portion 1, Fig. 2, with a marginal flange 3 around which a continuous groove 5 extends, the outer portion 7 of the flange from the groove 5 to the outer edge extending further away from the body portion 1 than does the remainder 9 of the flange, and the groove containing a flexible strip 11 extending above the groove and directed inwardly of the casing so as to be deflected further inwardly to the inner end of the flange by pressure of a cover-plate 15. The sealing strip 11 is of flexible and oilresistant nature (e.g. of synthetic rubber), is of L-shaped cross-section and projects above the outer surface 7 of the marginal flange 3 of the casing 1 prior to placing the cover 15 in position. An outer portion 17 of the flange of the cover 15 is flat and engages the outer portion 7 of the casing marginal flange. An inner portion 19 of the cover flange inclines inwardly and away from the inner portion 9 of the marginal flange. The inner wall of the groove 5 is inwardly inclined so that the groove is bellmouthed.
