Abstract

578,989. Bearings &c. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. May 28, 1945, No. 13338. Convention date, May 26, 1944. [Class 12 (i)] In a rolling-friction bearing, several layers of sheet-metal packing are disposed between the bearing and its housing, oil films being situated between the layers. In Fig. 1 these metal layers are formed by a continuous spiral 4, dipping into an oil sump in the lower part of the casing 5, and perforated as at 6 to allow the oil to pass between the turns of the spiral. The outer side of the spiral is covered by a ring 8 held by a spring ring 7. Alternatively the metal sheets may be formed by half rings 10, Fig. 3, whose joints are displaced relatively to each other round the bearing, the whole being enclosed by a sheath 11 separated from the outer rings by a film of oil.
