Abstract
577,820. Projecting stereoscopic images. SAVOYE, F. Jan. 29, 1942, No. 1247. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1941. [Class 97 (i)] In an installation for projecting stereoscopic images by the parallax stereogram method, the projection screen and the seats are so arranged that the mean plane in which the eyes of the spectators lie is parallel to that of the screen, so that stereoscopic vision is obtained by all the spectators. In the installation shown, the screen E and the plane S of the seats are both inclined at the same angle to the horizontal. Cylindrical projection and viewing gratings G<1>, G<2> respectively extend between discs g', g<2> mounted on axles carried by the wall and ceiling of the hall, so that the gratings may be rotated about an axis parallel to the plane of the screen, which lies within the, projection grating. The gratings are rotated by a belt c<2> driven from the motor M which also drives the projector. The right and left eye images are projected from spaced points, by means of a known arrangement of shutter and prisms, through the rotating grating G<1>, resulting in the formation on the screen of alternate strip elements of the two images, which are represented in the Figure as shaded and unshaded areas, and as they would appear viewed from the back of a translucent screen. The strips of the viewing grating G<2> may be made in known manner, wider than the interspaces, so as to allow a degree of lateral movement of the spectator's eyes without impairing the stereoscopic effect.
