Abstract
577,785. Body armour; helmets. MAREK, A. J., and SCHILLER, F. W. June 2, 1938, No. 16562. [Classes 63 and 141] [Also in Group XXXIII] Bullet-proof armour plating for helmets, breast-plates and the like comprises a steel or other metal base plate 1 and a layer of rubber or rubber substitute secured thereto and prevented from expanding in a plane parallel to the base plate by means of an inextensible structure within the body of rubber dividing the same into rectilinear areas, Fig. 1 shows rubber blocks 3 embedded in a cellular structure 2, a cover plate 4 being provided, whilst Fig. 2 shows a network 6 of wire textile, silk or other threads embedded in a rubber sheet 5. The rubber parts may be vulcanized to the metal parts.
